Monkey wins again
Adding to the success of winning the prestigious Design Plus award earlier this year, the Fridge Monkey by Mode Product Design has been nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Design Preis is Germany’s highest distinction in the field of design and is known as the Prize of Prizes. Products can only be nominated by the Ministries and Senators of the Federal States or by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and must have already been awarded a German or International Design Prize.
Organized by the German Design Council, one of the world’s leading design competence centres, the Award is given in recognition of top achievements in the field of product design and communication design.
An independent jury of ten experts from industry, universities and media, which includes Roland Heiler, Managing Director of Porsche Design GmbH and Moni Wolf, Design Director of Motorola, convenes in August to select the winners. The judges take into account a variety of factors including creative and technical innovativeness, design strategy, utility, usefulness and sustainability.
The flexible rubber mat is designed to stack all sorts of bottles or cans in your fridge and free up valuable shelf space. The jury of eminent experts judged the submissions according to stringent criteria: quality of design, practicality, technical and ecological quality as well as the overall concept. The Fridge Monkey was also Highly Commended at the 2007 Gift of the Year Awards. Mode adds to the success of winning the Gift of the Year Award in 2006 with their innovative Fridge Clock.
