Essential 6 March 2008
Design addicts will approve of the Pantone-branded W2 bone china mugs. Each of the 10 simple designs is in a colour from the i palette invented by Laurence Herbert in 1963. Herbert's innovative system, which identifies and matches colours, is used by brands such as Kodak and Tiffany. Each mug has a little tag line to help you connect with your favourite colour (mug). Black is "dark thoughts, London taxis, Bauhaus, ink." You get the picture. Perhaps a touch faddish, but also simple, appealing and witty. And you can chuck them in the dishwasher and microwave (except for the pink, apparently).
